Mapping IT Services to Business Activities

For several years the focus has been on having an IT Service Catalogue.  Dwight and his colleagues have learned through experience that defining and mapping IT services and components to business activities and outcomes is even more important and can be done as a forerunner to an IT catalogue.

IT may think and communicate technology terms whereas the business customers on the other hand are only focused on the outcomes they are trying to achieve.  They find this IT talk boring or worse, they don’t understand any of it. 

This presentation will discuss the following concepts:

–   Mapping IT services to Business outcomes

–   How to link IT services to IT assets and components and why IT needs to care

–   How this IT Service Map enables both the IT service Catalog and the CMDB (configuration mgt. database)

–   Benefits such as being able to get the metrics IT needs and

–   How this creates a different discussion about IT costs and investments
